Mondo Brewing TapHouse is maybe 35 minutes walk from The Oval. Definitely a bit quicker if you get the right bus at the right time. And, maybe 20 minutes walk back to Stockwell Station.
I'm so glad we did it. Great place. Top reason being the beer list. But, it's also very nice & comfortable inside. And, the staff were very friendly & helpful. Nine of their own on keg. A fridge full of their own bottles. I had three. And tasted three others. Plenty to keep anyone/everyone interested is what I'm saying.
Mondo, Dennis Hopp’r on keg at 5.3%.
Flagship IPA. Very nice. Needs overhopping. Don't they all?
Mondo, Ozeki v3 on keg at 5%.
I'm told, an annual collab with a Japanese brewer. But, a different style each time. This was a Rye Pale. Not a full on red fruit banger. But, full flavoured. Quite spicy upfront. Leading into pleasant bitterness.
Mondo, Juice Crew on keg at 5.1%.
Billed as American Pale. It leaned more towards grapefruit, citrus from the hops rather than bitterness.
I loved all three. Although, you'll see from my notes, I'd have preferred MORE of this (Hop Bomber Bitterness), more of that (Red Fruit Rye). It's a stretch to say it's near The Oval. But, it's well worth the effort. If YCCC stay in Div One, I'll deffo be back.
But, of course, I also went deeper into The Oval’s superb beer offering.
Portobello, Westway Pale on gravity at 4%.
I felt a little bit like we're getting into identikit territory here. Blonde, golden, pale. But no dramas. A lovely bit of sun out, Cricket beer. Refreshing. Lots of flavour. Leaves you wanting more.
The evening was rounded off in The Angel 'Spoons. Which, over time, comes and goes. Currently, it's right up there. A sort of Craft Beer 'Spoons. Old Hands, Truman, HopStuff, Windsor & Eton. All pukka English Craft Keg. Not for me, Dear Reader. It's September 14th. I've still got some use by end-September 50p off Cask vouchers. I love craft keg. But, I'm not a mug.
Hogs Back, Surrey Nirvana on cask at 4%.
Difficult day for YCCC. Today & Tomorrow. Surrey Nirvana might just sum it up.
