Sheffield United 1 v Ipswich Town 0
The Championship
Saturday 14 October 2017
SUFC 2017/18 Game 34
The Sheffield Tap. Wild Beer Co., Pogo on cask at 4%. Billed as P for Passion Fruit, O for Orange, G for Guava, and another O, Pale Ale. I was slightly nervous. I love Wild Beer Madness IPA. But, I find the “madness” of their pissed around with beers a bit much at times. But, no drama here. No, as you’re asking, of course I couldn’t individually discern the Passion Fruit, Orange & Guava flavours. Could be a complete fraud for all I know. But, it was a nice fruity pale. Lots going on, full of flavour. And enough hop action to keep me honest.
Then to London Road. The Albion. I see on Social Media that it’s polarising a few people. Most of whom are perfectly capable of speaking for themselves. But, the danger is it’ll get all us n them. A few people have chipped in to criticise The Albion for “not being a proper match day Pub”. Which comes across a bit like “too much Real Ale & Craft Beer, who wants that on a Match Day?”. At times, feels a bit like our old friend “why don’t you sell Normal Lager?”. And gets close to “if you want Real Ale, fuck off to Kelham Island”.
I’ve checked back on the Blog. I held the line last time. I don’t care what the pub sells & what other people are drinking, certainly if they want Normal Lager, that’s up to them. But, of course, like everyone else, there does need to be something in the Pub I can drink. There is in The Albion. Sorry, the sun was out, I could see there were a good few in the beer garden. But, I was struck by how few people there were in the pub in general. We’d walked past the Clubhouse. That looked rammed. I prefer quieter pubs anyway. I hope they can stick at it, find a way.
Redchurch, Paradise Pale on keg at 3.7%
Stancil, Blonde on cask at 3.9%
No draws this season yet. I’m beginning to think - what is going on? Have we just caught the Division cold? How much of a contender are we? Anyways. I’ll use the Table to help me out. Over a quarter of the season gone. Twelve games. We’ve won 8 of those. (Just us & Wolves with 8 wins). We’re two points behind the leaders. Who we’ve already beat. And we’re Third on goal difference. Five points clear in a play off spot. We were a constant attacking threat again today. Nervous - as if you dominate, attack, and don’t get one in. You can be caught out on the break. But, that’s our lot. Plug away. Ball over from the left. Centre back, wingback, whatever, free in the box to put it home.
