Canberra Beer Hunting

I'm afraid I haven't been able to do the Canberra Beer Scene justice this time around.

I've done;

The Durham Castle in Kingston

Zierholz in Fishwyk

Bentspoke in Braddon

On previous trips, I've been to the old Debacle location & the old Wig & Pen location. I stuck my head in the new Debacle location on this trip. The taps seemed to be all German, Belgian & English. Not for me.

In 2013, I was in Canberra for "Beer Week". Disaster. Monday night. Two places weren't even open. The third had only one of seven taps on.

Anyway. Zierholz was welcoming. The beer was good. Just a little safe for my taste. The Durham Castle had a good range of taps. It sort of has a faux English Pub thing going on.

But, I really enjoyed Bentspoke. It had all the stuff you'd expect. Clean. Bright. Welcoming. And Sixteen of their own stuff on keg. I basically went high end;

Derailleur - 8.4% - 5 hopped IPA (inc US 291), Wild Yeast

Cluster 8 - 8.8% - Imperial IPA

Crankshaft - 6% - 4 hopped IPA

Hub - 4.6% - American style Pale

With a few sneaky ticks & bottle jobs I'm now on 322 Australian beers.

That Bentspoke Crankshaft has been my Standout Canberra Beer. Superb.
