Onion, in Beer? Batch Brewing Co.

Jaunt to Batch Brewing Company over in Sydenham today. A good set up in an industrial unit/estate. Thankfully lots of ceiling fans. First up a language difficulty. The "special" was described to me as (heard) Summer Farmhouse with Onion. Pause. Pause. Pause..... "Onion?"

No, Honey.

First up - Summer Farmhouse on keg at 4.6% - no onion, no honey, no watermelon (which was one of the other legitimate options). They're all served in jam jars (ffs).

Powerful, delightful, but difficult to place aroma. Just a hint of something acidic, a light wine vinegar even.  There is a great, swirling, mouthfilling quality to it. A nice dryness as well. Here's one, I can't quite distinguish the after kick - is it the hops coming through, or a spiciness off the yeast. Either way, it's lovely & plays around the taste buds. Surely though, that's a nice little hop hit at the end.

On to Vienna Lager on keg at 5.4%. I'm loving these aromas. Can't place that one either. That and the taste have a sugar quality, without being sweet !

The mouthfeel is slightly anaesthetic. The colour is great. Deep amber. Lager as it should be. It's a sort of candy sugar taste. Deep & rich, there is some fruit in there. Not sure, maybe gently leaning towards passion fruit. The malt kick dominates, but it's balanced, not sickly or overpowering.

Next up, Mosaic IPA on keg at 6%. Oh here we go. Deep intense, mildly citrus hop aroma. Upfront bitterness. Some ginger. Tongue tingling. Fruit in the background. Pineapple. You can just feel the abv kick. I've come for the hops. There they are. First impression is that would pass muster with anything, The Kernel, the lot. Long long finish. Superb.

And, finally. Campos Milk Stout on keg at 4.3%. Coffee. Coffee. Coffee. Added, not from the roast or the malt. Pretty simple. It's good if you like that sort of thing. It's actually a nice beer. It's not oversweet. You can taste beer in it in the background. Bit of toast. Bit of malt. Some bittering. First impressions are of a latte coffee. I've had a lot worse than that. It's a grower.

Great great day at Batch Brewing Co. Very busy. Very friendly. Go visit.

Standout beer of the day was that Mosaic IPA. You'd have to go a long long way, etc.
