Peckham Town's Menace Arena is the 370th different ground I've watched a football game on. A brisk walk from West Dulwich station. Past the Dulwich College cricket square. Past the impressive (but obviously annoying) College building itself. Down the A205 lined with the mansions & villas owned by Surgeons & High Court Judges. There's a somewhat more homely feel once you pass Pynners Close Playing Fields - home of Peckham Town Reserves. And on the other side of the road, you bump into The Menace Arena itself - home of Peckham Town.

A lovely welcome at the turnstile. Peckham have signed up a new cider supplier. It seemed a bit hit or miss (the Carrier Bag Firm achieved Hit), but paying punters were offered a free bottle of SXOLLIE Granny Smith Craft Cider at 4.5%. We did the obligatory lap of the ground. Grass surfaces round the majority. A changing room/bar/kiosk block on one side. A small three or four row covered stand on the other. Today, in the days of Covid, being used as an open air changing room/staging post for the Fisher boys. A tin roof at one end. And, in the corner, the old One Man Shed.

A lot of love & care needed on all that mentioned.

Peckham have gone for that progressive club in the community feel. With a few jokey references chucked in. The Bar is called Area 51. The team run out to the theme from Only Fools And Horses. God bless Hooky Street……

Area 51 (the Bar remember) doesn't even nod towards industrial, commercial beers. Superb. Brick Brewery brew in SE postcodes. Peckham Pale (4.5%) & Peckham Session (IPA 4.2%) are available in 330 cans. And, if you were to ask "have you got any normal lager?" You'd be offered Peckham Pils at 4.8%.

The Peckham Session was better than the Peckham Pale, but I enjoyed them both.

A feisty game at times. A bit too niggly for this level if I'm honest. A few players limping off & around. Need better close season conditioning mate. Not hugely entertaining. But combative & competitive. And, a free Cider.
