Today's drink was a bottle of Five Points Brewing Company Railway Porter at 4.8%. Bought direct from the Brewery a good few weeks ago. I was wandering aimlessly around Hackney/Dalston & I more or less stumbled across their place. (Although I was familiar with their beer).
Nice, friendly & helpful when I was in there.
The Porter had a lovely caramel coloured head, which did die rather quickly. Quite smokey on the nose.
Some smokiness on the initial gulp & a toasted fruit. Maybe a bit of raisin. Nice bitterness kicks in - essential for a proper Porter (as I keep repeating).
A bit more treacle as I got down the glass. And develops more & more into a pleasant thick redfruit juice. Very nice.
Disappointing result for Yorkshire. I thought the Toss might be critical. Damp & overcast in the morning, with the chance of rain & a Duckworth/Lewis chase in the afts. Yorkshire captain Andrew Gale won the Toss & stuck Durham in.
Steve Patterson bowled very economically & put the brakes on. At one stage I thought maybe 260 would be par, then after a mini collapse, maybe 225. Durham finished on 237. I prefer to focus on Durham winning it than Yorkshire losing it.
Durham took wickets in clusters & got key players (Williamson, Bairstow & Gale) for Ducks. Difficult to recover from that. Paul Collingwood continued to roll the clock back & took 2 for 29 after 38 off 44 balls.
Time to regroup for the Championship.
