I’m going to sound all “little old Derbyshire”. But, they’ve given Yorkshire a lesson there today. Won’t be learned. Chesterfield is a so-called outground, that is not a County Cricket HQ. It was a sell out crowd today. But that’s only 4,000. The game was in Chozzer, ChesVegas - choose your preferred derogatory term.
Yet, the Top 8 for Derbyshire were;
Brampton, Best
Brampton, Golden Bud
Brampton, M Black IPA (4.8%, and that was the one I had)
Brampton, Ernie 8
Shardlow, Golden Hop
Moles, Gold
Instant Karma, Brew #1
St Austell, Cornish Best
And what do Mighty Yorkshire have to offer at Stadium Headingley - lone Black Sheep Bitter. It’s no contest. It’s men against boys.
I’m guessing the conversation goes. Hello, this is Yorkshire here. Is that our Pouring Partners Black Sheep? Good. We’ve got a big T20 at the weekend. Packed house. Can you send along 80 casks. No pfaffing around, 80 all the same please. Thanks.
Hello, this is Chesterfield Cricket Club here. Are you Brampton Brewery just up the road? Good. We’ve got a big T20 at the weekend. Packed field. We might need as many as 8 casks. Yeah, you know what you’re doing. OK 8 different ‘uns sounds fine me Duck.
Queen’s Park is a great setting for cricket. But, when it’s packed it’s packed. I presume the model is self-explanatory. Most Counties have at least one Sunday afternoon, family day, T20. Chesterfield have done a fine job over the years in re-inventing the Festival. And us in South Yorkshire are just over the hill there. But, bottom line. I think they might be better off having the Duck v Love, Derbyshire v Yorkshire T20 at the bigger County Ground in Derby.
And, the Game. I’ll be contradicted. But, I doubt the Strategy Meeting in March had Fisher & Shaw out there, with Rashid opening the batting. Lurching is what it is. The ECB T20 Blast model has no real sense of event, and so much relentless game after game. So, I’m told Yorkshire are not out of it yet as they’ve probably got dozens of games still to play (3 actually). Don’t forget, that whole pointless process whittles us down from 18 to 8. Almost easier to stay in than be knocked out. Anyway, in respect to that, I’ll save the post-mortem.
Gun for Hire Maxwell has done 45 off 29 balls & 1 for 33 off his 4. Opening bat Rashid has only gone for 17 off his 4 (with 13 dots). No one else has really stood up. Young Shaw has gone for 19 off his one over. In for his batting is he now Bresnan bowled one over - took 1 for 5. I mean, all that is the tale of the tape.
Wes Durston has done 3 for 14 off his 4. Just like the Beer Wars, Derbyshire have essentially bossed that from the gun.
