Superb pub today. Bit of history an' all. Coopers Tavern. Which was a building owned by Bass. Used for a number of different things. Storage, etc. But once it became used for quality assurance tastings, slowly became a tap room by accident. Multi room affair. Superb old historic place. Now part of the Joule's Brewery pub estate
Eight real ales on a combination of handpull & gravity. Including Bass on gravity from the cask. And one craft keg from Joule's. To cap it all, I got talking to some older fella who was retired from Bass. He used to be responsible for 50k barrels of Carling a week. Hey, everyone has to make a living. But, he was very interesting on the dried swim bladders of certain fish. I have no reason to doubt him. You show him any dried swim bladder & he'd tell you the fish it was from. Those raw materials, once processed & cut (in the sense of with a sharp instrument) & cut (in the sense of adding other chemical agents) become Isinglass Finings. When added to a cask of beer, finings attract yeast & other sediments so that they fall to the bottom of the cask & make the beer clear. History, chemistry, education, beer & football. Good day.
I had;
Joule's, Sunshine on cask at 4%
Kinver Ales, Maybug on cask at 4.8%
8 Sail Brewery, Victorian Porter on cask at 5% (as drunk by the ex-Carling brewer)
all great beers in great condition.
These two teams will play again in Portugal on 4 October. But that might really count. That'll be the Qualifying Stage for the UEFA U17 EUROs. Two teams will go through from that four team group. But, surely both teams will want to work on defence before then. Both shipping goals at will. I guess that has come across as exciting in the lots of goals sense. But sloppy for me. Lacked intensity. Lacked bite.
