Gillespie Gunslinger Gauge - still at TWO. Ballance & Brooks

Dry Day.

A week & a bit ago, Yorkshire were dreaming of the Treble. We've had a great win against Notts in the Champo in the week. That keeps us involved at the Top of that. But, we're up short in both the white ball formats. Finals day in T20 & another Semi Final hiccough in the 50 overs, is good all round. And does represent some progress.

But, it's difficult to hide the disappointment. I wanted a trophy. Greedy. Essentially it's the batting again. We needed to take a recognised batsman deep into the chase. See my previous Blog from T20 Finals Day.

Steven Davies (104) & Ben Foakes (90) accounted for over three quarters of the Brown Hat total. Given their individual scores, I felt they'd come up short. Game On. Young Matthew Waite weighing in with 3 for 48. Could/should have had two sharp caught & bowled chances as well.

Lyth has checked driven/chipped Dernbach to Sibley. Bairstow gone for an only just better than Edgbaston 13. Ballance giving catching practice to Foakes. It's all gone to/at 81 for 5 once Leaning was out. Needed one of the top 5 to go deeper. Sighs.

Young Waite kept his end together in a stand of 80 with Bresnan. But, that left 'em needing just under a ton. With four wickets. And thirteen overs. They plugged away. Couldn't hit boundaries. 19 short at the end.

Disappointing. Fizzled out. Partly, we've had it too good. The two Championship wins have built a winning mentality & expectation. You can recover from early & big collapses in the 4 Day game. But, you're found out in the white ball. Treble gone. Double gone. I'll applaud the fact we got to both Semis. And that we put/kept ourselves in the games. But, we need to get over the lines.
