In real time, that felt a lot more comfortable than it looks on the scorecard. From a very long way out, it looked like Derbyshire would fall short. They were 126-5 at the halfway mark. A big stand between Madsen & Smit (117) tooke them to 243-6 at 42.1. That was still 107 shy, with less than 7 overs left - and they lost the 7th wicket in that over. Critchley & Smit put on 88 in 7.4 overs. On another day, magnificent from Madsen 112 off 104 & Smit 77 off 68 red ink & Critchley 49 off just 21 (3x4s & 4x6s). But, all in a losing cause.
Ben Coad picked up 4 wickets (for 63). The bat damage was done by Handscomb - 140 off 112. 8x4s & 6x6s. A stand of 156 with Ballance. Again, you can’t help feel that YCCC have come up short. 316-3 off 44.1 - has only turned into 349. Anyway. Another well North of 300 wins it. Just not at a canter.
Today’s beer was;
Verdant Brewing Co. Headband Pale Ale from a can at 5.5%.
Lovely & orange in the the glass. Opaque. Some toffee in the smell surprised me. That just gave way to background tropical fruits in the background. It burst with flavour, before driving into pucker up biiterness.
