SUFC 2017/18 Game 26
I'm no hater. Football fans are mainly victims of the modern game. Highs lows. Ups downs. Social media changes things a bit. You have access to a lot of fan's views. Or, you seem to at least. You can never be sure who is who. But, I have been surprised by just normal, workaday interactions with Wednesday fans in the lead up to The Derby. Normal, decent folk. I've known for a long time. You OK Hun? Because your comments are borderline delusional.
Typical would be.
“I'm not sure what to think about Sunday”
“The Blades have done much better recently”
“Fantastic team spirit & all that”
“Obviously, man for man, Wednesday have got better quality players”
What? How can you know that? Indeed, what does that even mean? Even the Post Mortem has been full of “on paper….”. Do not listen to any Bollocks about “United were just more up for it….’
We were of course. But, that wouldn't have been enough. So. As well as being up for it. We had loads of the ball. Put loads of key defensive headers in. Passed & moved quickly. Played out from the back with confidence when we could. Had (Brooks) by far the best player out there. Were a constant attacking threat throughout. And scored FOUR.
You know. Just in case being Up For It wasn't enough.
The Owls had their moments of course. They had quality. I was surprised how often they caught us with longer, just over the top balls. Players bringing those down perfectly & finishing well will win games. Not this one, mind. They had some key spells when we were run ragged. And brought themselves level from two down. But. But, the plan of having “quality players” and letting them, indeed hoping they, do their stuff is flimsy. That even sounds shit … on paper.
Nice, hostile atmosphere. Better than I'd feared. Smaller away allocations. As both clubs realise they can sell more & more tickets to home fans. Those allocations inevitably go to older, more affluent fans who can rack up the Loyalty Points. Further diluting the hostility. Databases have knocked the shit out of groups of away fans getting tickets in home ends. So, I was pleasantly surprised to see how hostile it turned out.
Beers were naturally celebratory in style. Alcohol helps in the race to delusionality. I find. Some beers are obviously of higher quality. Some are just more up for it. All are to be quaffed.
Everard's, Single Hop IPA on Cask at 4.7%.
Bradfield, Farmers Blueberry Ale on Cask at 4%.
Bradfield, Farmers Ale on cask at 3.9%.
That Everard's was the Standout. But. If it thinks it's the best beer I've EVER tasted. It is deluded.
