SUFC 2017/18 Game 25
Standout Beer Of The Day goes to a superb Arbor, Transpacific Pale Ale on cask at 4.5%. I had that in The Bar Stewards. First time in for me. MicroPub style, bang opposite Shakespeare’s on Gibraltar Street. Single room set up. There are four handpulls on the bar top. Only three of those were on when we went in. Two went off while we were in there. One was replaced to leave only two on when we left. They’ve gone 4-3-2-1-2. Meaning there were four on during our short visit. Nature of the beast I suppose. There were six pukka British Craft Keg on as well. Mrs Ball Sup pronounced the Keg List “safe”. But, I must disagree somewhat. I thought it was good. Just happened to be six I felt I’d had a good few times before.
All of that. Don’t amount to hill of beans. Because that Arbor was delish. The Transpacific nonsense comes from their use of both US & South Pacific hops. You know what. They pulled it off. I felt it leaned more towards a rich, deep, American style bitterness. Which is my bag anyway. But, I also felt I could get the zesty, citrus stuff from Aus/NZ. Anyway. A belter. And, I can definitely recommend The Barstewards.
I also had;
Tiny Rebel, Juicy Tropical Golden Ale on cask at 4.8%.
I can also give a rousing thumbs up to The Old Workshop on Hicks Street in S3. Another first time for me. Different feel to The Barstewards. More cafe/bar. Got some stuff going on that is effectively Tapas. But, they call it summat else. As is the Modern Way. Deffo in an old workshop. Lots of industrial reference in the furnishings. (Cue some attempted gag about Industrial Brewers something something something).
Actually. That wouldn't work. Because that was a great, great beer list. Ten great craft keg lines. Plus Oranjeboom Lager. I noticed a good few were drinking that. And, Ladies with Prosecco too. “Have you got any normal lager…” is a tough act to get around. Siren, Chorlton, Magic Rock, Neepsend, Bristol Beer Factory, Tiny Rebel, Black Iris, Fourpure. Plus. All good that. I really fancied the Magic Rock, Precognition IPA. OFF. Oh, here we go…..
Anyway, Siren, Yulu, Loose Leaf Pale Ale on keg at 3.6%. ON.
The third new place was Stew & Oyster. S3. Between The Fat Cat & The Milestone. Perfectly decent place. OK, worst of those three today. And, I wouldn't rush back. But, perfectly decent. The keg list was uninspiringly safe (Camden Pale for eg). There were cask lines aplenty. But some were doubled up. Knocking it down to six on.
Tiny Rebel, Fugg Life on cask at 4.2%.
It's been a difficult start to the season for this crop of U18s. Two wins & two losses had left us second bottom before the game. It was a reasonably even game. I'd probably say Crewe were just about the better team. But, Blades DNA shone through. A goal up as Reon Potts dinked in as the ball fell loose. Crewe equalised. But, very late on. One pumped lumped all the way in. Cameron Hawkes got his head on it & it looped over the keeper for the win.
