SUFC 2017/18 Game 50

Good, deserved win for the Blades Futures. Great game too. Staveley were well in it for long periods. But, United defended well. And we're always an attacking threat. Goals on 63 minutes & 74 minutes put us through.

Flip knows how this League Cup works. There are 12 teams in it. As far as I can see, all 12 play. How they get down to 8 or 4, don't know. Anyway, if there is a hat, we're in it. I increasingly love coming to Staveley. Two consistent pubs. A great modern clubhouse. (Although the cask pump is nearly always turned around). The ground has large spectator areas. It's clean & comfortable. Salute.

The All Inn
Lenton Lane, Gold Rush on cask at 4.2%.
Crystal clear in the glass. Feels a bit lifeless at first. But, there is a lot of grapefruit (the peel) in the finish. Nicely bitter & well balanced.

But, tonight, I much preferred The Speedwell Inn. A good range of their own, Townes Brewery, range on. And a couple of guests.
Peak Ales, IPA on cask at 6%. I asked for a taste. The bar lady pulled off the best part of a pint. As “it needs pulling off”. Love that. Thick in the mouth. Opaque. Looks the part. The bittering is constant. But not harsh. It comes off a little sour apple. Then fills the tastebuds. Quite rich. Great beer. I'd love to see more cask, hopped up, roughly 6% IPAs. I suppose the brewers worry about taking a chance on it.
