Haven't had one of these for a while. Route One, Plan A Day. New Bar, New Beer, New Ground. Stockport Town's Stockport Sports Village 4g ground out in Woodley was my 432nd ground tick.
There was a handily placed bar at the top of the main stand, with a few windows looking over the pitch. Just Heineken & Moretti in there on Keg. So, not for me tonight I'm afraid.
Last season, Town finished second in North West Counties, Division One South. Wests were ninth in the Division above, the Premier Division. However, with pre season games coming thick & fast. And, a raft, nay a lifeboat, of rolling substitutions. I've no idea on the relative strength of the players out there. So, it's not clear whether that was a true Step 6 giant killing.
Good game, played in great spirit. One player on my side of the pitch lost it briefly as he thought too many foul throws were being missed by the Ref. But, everyone survived that one. Stockport were worth that win. They controlled much of the game after a great clean, unmarked headed goal from a left wing corner on 36.
They pushed on with a second goal on 77. The WD&C keeper seriously overestimated his ball skills. Two Stockmen harassed him, he got it a bit stuck between his untwinkle toes, and was robbed. And the ball bounced in. The keeper immediately fucking blamed everyone else - Good Lad.
Wests scored on 83. Maybe they thought they could push on for the equaliser. But, that was bosh-kied on 88. A great Town goal to bring it home 3-1. A good fast break, perfect square ball, and a neat dink over the keeper.
Jake's Ale House
27 Compstall Rd, Romiley, Stockport SK6 4BT
I've been for a drink in Romiley before. Way back in 2014, when I followed Manchester City U19 in the UEFA Youth League. See, you didn't expect that, did you? In Romiley, but not in Jake's. Lovely, welcoming single room, shop front micropub. Both the barman and a punter sat at the bar were quick with the old;
"What sort of thing are you looking for?"
As I surveyed the clips. I don't mind that. Not interfering, just helping. My hesitation was because there were two Abbeydales on. Should I have one? Even though I can get them in The Rising Sun down the hill from me? Hesitate. Naaahhh.
Five on Cask. Two safe pukka Keg. And a variety of lagers.
Settle Brewery, Epic IPA on Cask at 4.4%
My opinion is divided on that one. It claimed American Citra and unnamed New Zealand Hops. But, it tasted more like a classic English Cask IPA to me. And, I got different things at different depths. First up, it was nicely bitter. A bit further down, a bit of soap. And, halfway down some citrus fruity bits. It was beautifully clear and inviting.
