"Don't book anything for Pickering"
The cry went up from the traveling Shed Enders on 90+3. The league schedule had Hallam away at Pickering Town on Saturday 21 October. But, that is the weekend of the First Round Proper of The FA Vase.
I felt Hallam had been the best team for much of the game. But, when Lower Breck went ahead on 88, with a superb, from distance, left foot strike, it looked done.
But, a 90+3 penalty awarded to Hallam, and converted. Meant…
"They tried to make me go to Pickering"
"But I won't go, go, go"
In the shootout, Lower Breck had their second penalty saved, and missed their third. Hallam scored all four.

This is a VERY big deal for the Carrier Bag Firm. Saturday 21 October is the evening Sheffield United are at 8 o'clock home to Manchester United. And with a scheduled 11am U18 Academy game at Shirecliffe, we were looking at a 3pm kick off for a rare TRIPLE HEADER.
I'll be honest, we'd already had to write Pickering off as logistically impossible. So, provided they don't go behind fucking closed doors at Shirecliffe. And provided Hallam v Coventry United in the Vase is confirmed as Saturday 3pm. The TRIPLE HEADER is on.
The Carrier Bag Firm also won a score on the Lower Breck football card!!!!
Pity. As they were incredibly welcoming.
They let me in early for a wee wee after a long over Pennine schlep. Shook our hands as we left, even though they'd lost. Paid out on the football card. Incredibly welcoming.
Plastic pitch. In a cage. A bar in the attached "leisure centre" style building. No cask. No keg. And just industrial tins. But, no drama. If that's what they've got. That's what we'll have.
