German Beer Ticks up to #98
One of my SubStack Subscribers has asked me;
“How come you never seem to do any tourist shit Phil? Don't you like visiting interesting places?”
“Well, seeing as you ask, today we've been to Notchooroes.”
“Ooohhh. Sounds great. What's there? Is it rural and scenic?”
“What, Notchooroes?”
“Or is it an old walled city, with museums and galleries and shit?”
“Sorry, maybe we're at cross purposes. We've made a deliberate choice to get away from it all. And live a bit. We're at German pre season friendlies. The Not EUROs….”
Fortuna Dilkrath’s picturesque Volkbankstadion Schwalmtal ground is the 489th different ground I have watched football on.
My Carrier Bag Firm companion asked me;
“Phil, is this like Hallam playing Sheffield United Under 21s?”
Well. Fortuna Dilkrath play in Landesliga Niederrhein Gruppe 1. Which is Tier 6 of the German pyramid. Borussia Mönchengladbach are, of course, a famous old German club. Formed in 1900. Currently in the Bundesliga. Which they have won five times. To add to three Cup wins and two UEFA Cup wins. Today, this was their II, their reserves, their U23s. They themselves play in the German pyramid. In Regionalliga West, which is Tier 4.
But, there were no floodlights at Schwalmtal. No hard standing. And no permanent seating for a minimum of fifty. So, no, not like Hallam. Because of their facilities, Fortuna Dilkrath wouldn't get a gig in the Northern Counties East I'm afraid.
They also have a discriminatory entrance policy. The fuckers. I was charged six of yer German Euros for a ticket. Female CBF were set back just four.
And. Rejoice. There was a Beer Tick in it. Bit of close questioning revealed;
Privatbrauerei Bolten, Bolten Alt, Altbier from a bottle at 4.9%
Research suggests that the Bolten brewery in Korschenbroich is the oldest brewery in Nordrhein-Westfalen. Dating from 1266!!!
Naturlich, I pressed and pressed for the “female discount” on those bottles. But, he was fucking having none of it.
The first fifteen minutes were all Gladbach. They went ahead on twelve. And we were already beginning to look up the German for - Cricket Score. But, out of nowt, Dilkrath equalised on 24. And, fair play, they got more and more back into the game. They could have gone ahead on 34. From a breakaway, the Gladbach defender felt he had no option but to bring the Dilkrathian down. He copped a booking. And the free kick went just wide.
Ones each at the half.
A very lively second half. The Borussia Mönchengladbach twitter claims they hit the woodwork five times. I'm not contradicting. And the Dilkrath goalie kept them in it a number of times.
