So. My club side (Sheffield United) are struggling with the Public Relations fallout of naming a stand after Olympic Golden Girl Jessica Ennis.

Meanwhile, in the real world, one stand at Clachnacuddin FC is the "1947/48 Clean Sweep Enclosure". Now, maybe I'm ignorant but respectful. I did not know the stand was called that. And I had no idea Clach had a Clean Sweep season in 47/48. But what an achievement & fair play for naming the enclosure.

My (possibly incorrect) understanding is that Clachnacuddin won every competition they entered that year. The League, League Cup, Qualifying Cup, North of Scotland Cup and the Inverness Charity Cup. And rightly decided to immortalise the season in concrete & corrugated iron.

My first (maybe just maybe only) go at a Highland League game. A spirited affair before a partisan crowd. The ref had his hands full.

We calmed down afterwards in Blackfriars on Strathaven Ales Old Mortality 80/-. Nice beer. As it should be. All about the malt backbone. But not over sweet. Earthy. Nutty.
