Rocks Brewing Co. Cellar Door

Out to the Rocks Brewing Co. Cellar Door. I got the number 400 Bus from the Airport. More or less to Mascot Station. Then a 10 minute hike from there.

Big brewery operation. Large bar (including outdoor area) bang off it. 10 kegs (9 beer 1 cider).

I went top of the range straight away. India Pale Ale at 7.1%. Looks glorious in the glass. Amber. Opaque. Sugar & spice on the nose. Wow, bitter hopped to the heavenly side of Hell. Deep & intense. Pucker up. Warming abv on the throat on the way down. There's a nice malt backbone. But it's a long way to India from here - all about the hops. Long long finish. It does get sweeter down the glass & pleasantly so.

On to India Red Ale at 6.5%. Sweet red fruits on the nose. Slightly grassy woody taste first off. Develops effervescent & clean. Slight tobacco sweetness. Some sharpness there. Almost hinting red wine vinegar. The bittering just about gets there. Some nice mix it all up complexity as I get down it. Nice beer.

Next up. Hangman Pale Ale at 4.9%. Somewhat dry in the mouth. Nice swirling bitterness kicks in. Refreshing & mouthfilling. Gentle citrus on the nose. Which only partially comes through on the palate. That is more bitter than I expected. But I like bitter. It's a serious Pale. Some grapefruit as I get down it.

And finally. India Session Ale at 4.2%. That is nice. A floral/citrus bitterness that grows & grows. Clean & crisp on the nose. That'd get mentioned in the minutes of the meeting day in day out. Feels like an overhopped South Pacific ale at first. But then develops more into US style IPA. The bitterness is spot on. Challenging but not overpowering. Bitter kick makes it feel more than 4.2%. Super Super Beer.

But, I'm giving Standout Beer of the Day to the 7.1% India Pale Ale.
