I had a Beer Day Disaster on my long trip to Lord's. I caught the Sheffield to St Pancras iron horse. Legged it to Euston. Got the rattler to Hemel Hempstead. Met a friend & his wife gave us a lift to Red Squirrel Brewing Co. at Potten End. The on site bar had (maybe) 4 cask and one keg lines. But, it turned out that NONE WERE ON.

I was too busy trying to stop the car leaving us high and dry to take in the bleatings. Think it boiled down to "lines being cleaned". I immediately placed 'em on the Ball-Sup Blacklist & Self-Barred myself.

Then in a sense it got worse. A quick rethink & we hit Frithsden Vineyard. They sell their own label wine. And they sell bottled beer. There were 3 different bottles. Peroni. And, yes you've sodding guessed it - 2x Red Squirrel. Dilemma don't cover it. I had to do a quick how much nose to be chopped off analysis. I'm not giving them the pleasure of tasting notes. I had Red Squirrel, Hop Fest at 4.2% and Red Squirrel, Mister Squirrel at 4.7%.

We then decamped to the Alford Arms. I piled into Tring, Side Pocket on cask at 3.6%. That's having Standout Beer of the day. For obvious reasons. Seething.

So, let's get it all out of the way. Adam Lyth gets the Welcome To Big Boys Cricket award. He got a good 7 on his Test Debut. But it was still 7. I'm delighted he's got his shot. I'll hold faith in him. Go well fella.

Great day of Test Cricket. Root & Stokes putting on 161 in the counter attack fight back. But both falling in the 90s. Butler & Moeen put a ton in after that.
