That was actually quite encouraging in the first half. Who’d have thought that working hard, intensity, pressing the man with the ball and a bit of pace would be a recipe for playing well. We’re bombarded with believe in this, trust in that. Oy, it has to work both ways you know. If you want stability, play a stable team/system.
My tactical genius says we were undone by the right back playing at centre half being injured, who was replaced by a substitute midfield player, allowing the dominant midfield player to switch to centre back. Who’d have thought that that was a recipe for failure.
Partly that, and partly that Swindon worked out they might get somewhere if they pressed as hard as us.
Anyway, rallying cry, we’re still in it. Whoopy Doo, everyone down to Swindon on Monday.
Am I right to be worried about The Tap & Tankard? I went there to meet an old mate, because it’s generally quiet. And, man, it was. Surely they need more people in to make a proper go of it. I only see it in isolation. But, Thursday Tea, with a match on & I as back in there after. Elbow (and knee) room.
I put the two Milds together. Hop Studio, Raisin d’Etre on cask at 4.1%. Kelham Island, Sons Of Conformity on cask at 3.4%. Both nice, happily go back to those. But a bit chalk & cheese. I wouldn’t have complained if the Hop Studio had been billed as a Porter. Rich, with nice bittering. The Kelham was more traditional Dark Mild style. Nice, simple, easy drinking.
You know what, lovely as the Hop Studio was, I’m giving Beer Of The Day to the Kelham Island Sons Of Conformity. It was perfect and “as billed”.
I also piled into the Fuggle Bunny, 24 Carrot on cask at a whopping 6%. It was a nice, complex beer. I couldn’t really taste it as that high abv. But, it lacked a genuine hop, bitter hit to be described as an IPA. It was very much in the English IPA style (ie not American). I’ll give it another go down the track and see what’s really going on.
