20% Off For The Tatt

Hallam 8 v Selby Town 1
Northern Counties East Football League
Division One
Saturday 23 October 2021

It's been BrewDog Collabfest this week. Theoretically, I get a quarter off my bill during the day at BrewDog for various investments I've made. I'm a bit paranoid sometimes that I'm not getting the discount calculated properly. But, yesterday, I found something out about BrewDog discounts that I never knew before.

If you've got a plausible BrewDog Tattoo, show it when you settle your tab, and you'll get an extra 20% off. Yes, really. I saw the geezer on the next table do it. With me own peepers.

Anyway, back to Collabfest. The format remains roughly the same. Every BrewDog bar worldwide collaborates with an independent brewery local to them to brew a unique, one off beer. Those kegs get all swapped about around the country & indeed world and pop up at different BrewDog bars.

For example, I've gone through sixteen different beers in BrewDog Sheffield on days one & two. The promotional bumph says there are 70+ breweries taking part from 16 countries. In a way, that's unwieldy. I look back nostalgically to simpler days when there was a good opportunity to try styles you've never had before. Now, you could drink NEIPAs all week long and not make much of a dent in the list. Anyway, there are 70+ stories in this city, here's mine.

The Mad 'Un
Duckpond Brewing from Gothenburg, Sweden
Flash Crash at 4.5%
Described as a heavily fruited Gose with Black Currant, Cherry, Raspberry & Vanilla.

Smells like an over jammed Victoria Sponge. Tastes like a mad smoothie sorbet. There's clearly more sugar than sour, which barely registers. (3.75/5)

The Local 'Un
Triple Point Brewing from Shoreham Street, England
7PM Demon at 7%
Described as a Maple Syrup and red fruit-infused American red ale.
In case you didn't know, one of BrewDog's core beers is called 5AM Saint (5%). So, 7PM Demon is a saluteable play on that.

The maple syrup gives it a barrel aged feel. Deep & rich. All about the sugar from sources various. There is some bitter but it comes very very late & is mixed in with malty goodness. (3.75/5)

The Big 'Un
Full Circle Brew Co from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England
Brewhouse Collective at 8.8%
Double IPA

Great beer. A lot of Orange & Pineapple in the juice. I like DIPAs where a lot of sugar is left over. This one tasted like they'd spooned Tate n Lyle in. There was just enough bitter to singe the tongue before the sugar comes again. (4/ 5)

The Black 'Un
Accidental Brewery from Lancaster, England
Tonka, Mon Cherry? at 8%
Described as 8 different malts, cacao, tonka beans, cherry and vanilla.

I loved that one. For me, the cherry made it all work. Bringing some sourness to perk everything up. (4/ 5)

Utterly dominant from Hallam. Towards the end, we'd reached that stage where all the Hallam players were being greedy & looking to get their own shot off. And. Invariably scoring with it. I've got that as unbeaten in the last 12 league games & won 11 of those. Scored SIXTY goals in those 12 games. Mounting a real challenge this season.
