Monday 4 August 2014

Today has presented me with a Blog Dilemma. I have precious few subscribers & followers. But, you never know, someone I write about might read this & recognise themselves.

But here goes, I in no way want to be disparaging.

One of the fellas at the game today lives in my home town of Sheffield. He goes to virtually every Yorkshire game. Earlier in the season I bumped into him & asked him something like;

"Did you go to that game last Tuesday that was rained off?"

"Yes, but I had to go into town anyway for my breakfast. Obviously, during the cricket season there's no point in me having food or milk in the house, I'm never there."

Priceless. Because of my lifestyle, people sometimes refer to me (affectionately) as The Unwaged. Hats off to that fella - he truly is The King of The Unwaged.

The ground

I was last here in the 70s for some long forgotten Yorkshire limited overs game. I have virtually no recollection. There is a small uncovered stand (but at midwicket) maybe 5 or 6 rows deep, with maybe 50 seats per row. There are park benches scattered around the boundary. I don't drive, but there look to be a fair amount of parking spaces.

The beer

I wandered over to the clubhouse. There were the usual suspects & 3 handpulls. One with nothing on. The others were Acorn Blonde at 4% & Acorn Barnsley Bitter at 3.8%.

I'd brought a bottle from Beer Central in Sheffield. A Roosters & Odell collaboration called The Accomplice at 5.7%.

It poured clear. Very light brown with an amber tinge almost Tizer like. Small head.

Floral aroma maybe with a hint of pineapple. Fairly pleasant but tangy rather than bitter on the palate.  Zesty almost lemonade feel. Nice central sweetness but well balanced against the hoppy bitterness.

There is more of a pucker up bitterness as you get into it. And the further down the glass I go the more sweetness I get. A ripe fruit almost nectarine sweetness.

Very nice.

The King of The Unwaged is moving on to the 2s in York tomorrow.
