How does a keg even work? I went to hunt today. I’d seen social media mention of a Belgian Yeast, Thornbridge Halcyon Belgian Imperial IPA (7.4%) in The Bath Hotel. So, I thought I’d try that. I went in. Saw the clip. Asked for it. The Bar Person tried to explain it was nearly gone. She was trying to explain it’d gone off the previous night. And then, I heard some nonsense about someone had asked for a Lime….
Mutton. It was Line. The basics appear to be. The Beer will stop running. But, then some tilting of the keg and fixing it up to pump water out to get ready for the next keg is required. That in itself means that the beer in the pipes (line) will now come out of the tap. She said two pints. I was naturally wary. But, guarantees were given. So, I’ve had half of the last two pints. (Which half, no one can be sure).
Anyway. It was fine. Tasted “how I expected”. Banana flavours high in the mix. Gentle bubble gum. Not as chewy as I’d expected. Not too much residual sweetness. But not a bit hop hit. Nice, well balanced. But somehow lacked the wow factor. Recently, I’d had the 6 Degrees North, Jiang Shi, Belgian Double IPA. That was absolutely superb. The Thornbridge one needs to, but doesn’t, measure up to that.
Competent enough by United. New Boo Boy favourite Jay McEveley was missing through injury. I was pleasantly surprised by the number of chances created. Could have had more, was the main verdict.
