"Free Beer" today. Due to some cock up with our BrewDog Equity Punk cards, we were compensated with some vouchers. Which we've duly redeemed at BottleDog.
Redchurch Brewery, Wild Isolation in a bottle at 5.4%. I'm not a great fan of that. Provenance. 100% Brett fermentation. Not as sour as I'd expected. And maybe I'd have preferred it more if it was. Flat & unappealing in the glass. Cloudy rather than opaque. Some acidity, but leaning towards tobacco sweetness as well. It's refreshing & mouthfilling. Some redeeming qualities. But not all the way down my street.
Which can't be said for the superb Hammerton, Baron H from a bottle at 5.8%. Billed as Earl Grey Black IPA. Complex but balanced. There is a spiciness which I didn't expect. Lots going on. Quite a bit of rich red fruit. Also unexpected. The bitterness feels short at first. But, really fits the other flavours. Further down, the bitterness lingers more & some toast and the gentle hint of smoke. Superb.
Well. That cricket feels a bit more normal. But first things first. I smiled at Galey, he smiled back. Man Crush.
Yesterday was the Lord Mayor's Show. Today was after. Flat. Sidebottom & Brooks extended the lead. Combination of knuckling down & playing some shots. Here is how normal. I was delighted Brooks got to his fifty. But, royally annoyed that they missed the extra point at 300, and the milestone of a 200 lead.
Middlesex lost 3 wickets on 87. But have gone from 143-5 to 274-5 at the close. Compo & Franklin. Not much happening with the ball. So, new red 'in first thing. Looking for a breakthrough. Or it'll be a tricky chase. Normal cricket. A 132 overnight lead for YCCC. Turned into an 81 lead for MCCC.
