Two fairly uninspiring beers in The Lord Nelson (Fannys) today. Partners, Spike’s on cask at 4.2% & Bradfield, Farmers Blonde on cask at 4%. The Partners seemed to be an attempt at cask Lager. It was quite enjoyable. Nice & light & easy drinking. Quite refreshing. But, it had an offputting washing up liquid thing going on in the smell. I could just say ditto the Farmers Blonde, with less of a washing up smell.

A convincing performance by the one and half string side put out for the paint pot cup. Three penalties & one red card. Done was lively upfront. Always on the go. That gives the midfield & defence an option. Improves link up play. Which has been sorely missing in recent games.

Lower level opposition helped. Baxter was able to strutt around. Pick the ball up. Have a look. Find Done. And he was able to either take it moving forward or bring someone else in. To me, that movement upfront, to help link up play, is the key to the First XI moving on from defeats.

Oh. And I’ve had a big (little really) idea for the Johnstone’s Paint. Which is still treated as the poor relation. It needs to be seen as part of a pyramid. With the League Cup. If you win the Johnstone’s, you get Byes in the next season’s League Cup. So, the incentive is that you come in at the Third Round. With The Champions League big boys. You could even guarantee the Johnstone’s winner a home tie. It would just make it a little more worth winning.
