Breathe on 'em Salop

Sheffield United 2 v Shrewsbury Town 4

I’d have to go through the archives. Common sense dictates it can’t be. But, at times, that felt as desperate as it ever has. Fifth season into Division 3. Wilson, Weir, Clough, Adkins & caretakers. They’re not even playing in Red & White stripes. And, early in the second half, they’re 4-1 down to Shrewsbury.

That fourth goal sums it all up. It was an edge of box free kick to US. Hit the wall. Shrewsbury pick the bits up. Move it forward at pace. Run at defenders. Everyone backing off. Ball is rolled into matey’s stride & he knocks it in. Surely, the closest any United player has been to it is as it rolls past Long’s hand.

What is going on/wrong? Well. I don’t think he’s lost the dressing room in the sense of disharmony. But, if he can’t get them playing. That’s the same ain’t it? We’ve drifted into a situation. If we’re not winning, we’ll get some more players in during the next window. And, they’ll come from a) the existing managers contact list of players he’s had before, b) the league levels above or c) Scotland. They won’t come from our own system. Nor, will they be young, hungry up & comers from our level or below.

Actually, that’s a little unfair. For eg, Che Adams. But, he’s powder puff at times. He’s either knocked off the ball or claiming a foul. Get with it.

We are attracting older players, from the leagues above, who the Manager knows. On too high wages. And dozens of them. We can’t keep them all happy. They’re taking the piss. We’re in a Coma. In between windows, Adkins is proving he can’t get this group of players to do any better. So, we wait…..

We can’t get these playing, we’re not bringing the right ones in. Message to Riyadh ends.

Two beers in The Swim Inn. A marvellous Bradfield Brewery, Belgian Blue on cask at 4.9%. Christmas, he coming. And, a Grafton, Caramel Stout on cask at 4.8%. Making the day marginally better.
