Strap yourselves in, we're off. First thing we've learned this season. The other teams want to win an’ all. Part of me said it couldn't be done. But, that XI is predominantly Wilder signings. Both centre halves. The left back. Two in midfield. And Clarke up front.
Difficulty is, if they get beat, he/we can trot out the “need to gel together” stuff. Which is what I'll do.
Some frailties around Long aside, they looked solid enough at the back. Brayford (in particular) & Hussey (less so) got forward a lot. Duffy also got forward. And him & Fleck were busy busy in midfield. The Sportsman coach vote gave Fleck Man of the Match.
But. Hussey’s crossing was generally shite. Done does his best. But, is he really best sent out there as wide left midfield? They conceded from a long range strike. Again. And. Most importantly. No link up play & they couldn't get ANYTHING going up top.
At times, Clarke reached Higdonesque levels of jumping under headers. Someone will have the Stats. But, he didn't really win any headers. Knock ons. Hold ups. Not happening. So no real way for Sharp to get in the game. No shots off. Keeper untroubled.
A Morehouse's pub in Atherton. The Pendle Witch. In the CAMRA Guide. A great little place. Six Morehouse's on. Two guests. And one or two turned round. Black Cat at 3.5% was my selection.
