My first venture to The Youdan Trophy. For those unfamiliar. One of those in the school holidays, gather youth teams from around the country/world, played in a week, play every day, cup, bowl, plate, vase tournaments.
There's an U14 tournament going on at a different University location in Sheffield. And, this U16 level at the Hallam University Sports Grounds out on Bawtry Road. Four games going on at the same time across the range of pitches. At this group stage, 30 mins each way.
It's worth supporting if you've got the time & inclination. I sort of draw the line above U14 level. I'd go & watch it to get me out of the house. Or to snaffle a Beer Destination. So, it was the 16s for me.
Let's deal with the supping opportunities. The main changing room block is nicely appointed. If “your” team are on the right pitches, you can even watch the games from a balcony outside the cafe/bar. It's called the Solley Suite Social Hub. It's on University premises. It's a bar in old money. Just very industrial brand keg. As you'd expect. Fair enough.
I went elsewhere. For a pint of Elland Brewery, Chinook on cask at 3.9%.
Dungworth, Binnion & Geary were all there.
