Stencil, American Beauty on cask in The Railway at 4.6%. Crisp & refreshing on the nose. But, smells very sweet, very slightly sour apples. Very nice to taste. Some of that upfront sweetness survives into the mouth. But, it's soon overtaken by the bitterness. It's not full on bitter. And it sort of hits you but doesn't grow or go anywhere. Not really living up to the American Pale billing. Nice beer nevertheless.

We’re struggling a bit with bodies. Wilson & Wright out. Basham suspended. Means we’re juggling a little at the back. I get the jitters if we look like square pegs, round holes. Once Basham was off at Scunny, Done was popping up at left back in the rearguard action. Jitters. There’s a ready made left back in Chris Hussey. Despite the good things being said about Callum Semple, he’s not even making the bench. So, it was Ethan & O’Connell, with Freeman wide right. And, Lafferty “dropping back” to left back. I thought he was more of an attacking threat at full back than he’s been wide left midfield.

And, we still look lightweight upfront. The midfield aren’t filling that gap by being creative & incisive. So, we’re going to struggle. All that to one side, a reasonable performance. The Gas had enough chances to win it though. And, I don’t think we could have complained.  Once Bristol went down to ten men, United seemed (bizarrely) to go into game management mode. We were knocking it about patiently, stretching them, using the extra man. All to go down the very wide channels & hold it up to kill time. It’s. Just. Disruptive.

Great, great header though from Chapman. He’s not a big fella. But, his timing, hang time, direction, power, well that’s what you pay for. We were much more lively anyway when he came on.
