We finally & happily got to two new (to us) places in Ipswich. After an aborted attempt when we came to see the U23s - both places turned out to be closed on Mondays, at the times we needed. Anyway, I think the best of the pair was The Spread Eagle on Fore Street. It caught me out a bit, lack of research I suppose. I hadn’t quite realised it is basically an outlet for Grain Brewery. As I had it, it was Grain only, no guests. Which, I have to say, is a touch unusual. However, no dramas, there were a good few on, we were offered beers direct from the cellar if it would help, and more came on as we sat there. I was slightly disappointed that the 6.5% Keg IPA wasn’t on. Despite being listed on the chalk. After some umming. And indeed a degree of erring. I plumped for the cask version.

Grain Brewery, Lignum Vitae IPA on cask at 6.5%. Which was superb. Indeed, just what a top side of 6% cask IPA should be. Note to self - don’t hesitate with high abv cask IPAs.
Grain Brewery, Three One Six on cask at 3.9%

We’d initially been in The Arcade Street Tavern. Nice - a bit of everything - trying to attract. Gin, Prosecco, Coffee, you know the drill. But, that ain’t what we’re here for. Keg & Cask. Enough to keep you interested - is my verdict. Friendly & welcoming.
Aegir, Lime Bomb on keg at 5%. Good beer. You certainly get a lot of the lime coming through, which plays nicely into the bitterness. Although, it wasn’t bitter enough for me. But, lots of flavour nevertheless.

I thought Utd were the better team there. Not much in it. And, not much going on, But, just shaded it. We were far from our best. At times, it looked ponderous. Slow with the ball. Nothing flowing. But, competent, solid. I’d need to watch it again to have another look at Ched Evans. In real time, he wasn’t poor. But, he did look a good way off it to me. He doesn’t seem to be playing to his strengths to me. You’re a battering ram fella. Get battering ramming. He didn’t jump for, nor contest many balls in the air. I’ll say I was disappointed. And, then I felt Brooks came on too late to make any real impact. Anyways. Grand scheme. That’s a point. Do me.
