2018/19 Brewery Visits - 104
The numbers show that as a comprehensive, hundred and lots, tonking of Kent. It didn't feel like that in real time. Yorkshire chucked 8 Overs at them late on Day 3. And had them 34 for 3 at the close. Only a tenner on Day 4, seven wickets, that'll all be wrapped up. By Lunch, Kent had put fifty on. But, still just three down. Nightwatchman Klaassen was still there red inking thirteen. Yorkshire did better in the middle session. But, with just four overs to the new ball. And twenty eight to survive for the Draw. Kent were still only seven down. Yorkshire a bowler missing, with Bresnan icing summat. Patto chucked Leaning on to snaffle towards the New Ball & "break the partnership".
Give me strength. Alex Blake has gone LBW to Leaning's sixth ball. Without that, it could have been much closer for the Draw. Ben Coad has done six for 52 off 24.5. I'm guessing Yorkshire knew the pitch might be a bit placid on Day 4. They'd gone very deep in the third innings, with a whopping 469. Having conceded a lead of 86, they'd started Day 3 on 166 for 3. The whispers were, Ballance 57* had to stay there & make the runs. That ended with a superb 188 partnership with Leaning. Jack went for 69 off 195 balls. And, I dare say he'll be disappointed not to cash in more. He needn't be. He played a very important role in setting up that win. Although obvs Ballance's 159 sticks out.
The Carrier Bag Firm were staring intently at The Balcony waiting for the Declaration on Day 3. It wouldn't have surprised me if they'd sent twelve, thirteen & fourteen out there. But, as I say, I think they'd read the pitch and knew they needed a big 'un.
Speaking of declarations, having taken my Brewery Ticks past a ton, I currently feel the Breweries have to come to me. Canterbury is a superb place for a beer, so one did. Number 104.
Canterbury Brewers at The Foundry Brewpub. A very welcoming place. The Kit was visible behind windows & a door in one of the rooms. There were a wide range of their own. Both cask & keg, some doubled up on both. Everything I tried was OK. No wrong 'uns. But, I felt there weren't any get up & grab you 'uns either. The one I enjoyed most was;
Canterbury Brewers, Foundry Man's Gold on cask at 4%.
No issue taking cans into the St Lawrence Ground. Naturally, we went for the full #CricketCans experience. Outstanding Cricket Can Of The Game goes to;
Wylam, Advocate Salvation at 5.2%. Claims to be just Centennial Hops, whole cone in the kettle, then some dry hopping. What emerged was a lovely straight ahead, no nonsense pale. A lot of spot on bitterness running all the way through it.
