SUFC 2019/20 Game 22
I’m going to cut this one short & just blast it out there. Games are coming thick & fast. A Headingley & Chesterfield Double Header today. And County Cricket for the rest of the week while it lasts. And, a big day in Court for Sheffield United today. No one is interested in actual kicky ballee. So let us start there. Wilder was “working” tonight. We are carefully preparing a Carrier Bag Firm Statement about the new owners, the Court Case, and all that Shit. But, I can tell you that Wilder, Knill, Matt Prestridge & loads of other tracksuits - were hosting, meeting, answering questions for some “Saudi Suits”. One of whom was doing some translating. Slowing things down & trying to simplify what Chris was saying into easier English. And also direct translation into what I assume was Arabic. They caught us unawares. I was just passing over some Precious Papers from previous games to the Carrier Bag Firm Memorabilia Realisation Officer. And, the Official Party came out of the Box & just happened to sit on the row behind us. I shifted at Half-Time, I can’t put up with all that cavorting.
That was a thoroughly convincing performance by the Young Blades. This morning Bristol City were second in the PDL South. (I mistakenly claimed they were Top on my Social Media, sorry). They had played 5, won 3, drawn 1. A very lively performance, brim full of energy throughout the park & team. Loved it. We didn’t seal it until the second goal on 82 minutes. So, it was a bit nervous after playing so well. Right CB, Kyron Gordon & left CB, Kean Bryan were raiding constantly down the flanks. Harry Boyes, nominally at LWB, was pushing forward all the time. As likely to pop up in the inside right channel as wide left. In the first ten minutes he whanged one across the box and the other wingback, Keenan Ferguson got on the end of it. In patches, Sammy Ompreon & Jake Young, up top, both showed great close control & skill. Ompreon in particular was very lively. I noticed both Andrew Hughes & Jack Lester “getting at him” a bit at times - to ensure he kept working. That’s the most bawling & pointing I’ve seen Lester do since he was appointed.
The Youngsters should/could have scored on 34. George Broadbent played a great, fast, inch perfect ball to Jake Young. He spun and left his marker for dead. Dead I’m saying. And got a powerful shot off. The keeper palmed it away. Reece York looked all set to pounce, but he couldn't do anything with the rebound.
But, United did open the scoring on 38 minutes. Reece York burst into the box (right channel). I thought he got the ball trapped under his feet, and between his legs, and stalled a bit. Maybe he was a little clever in “drawing the foul”. And the ref pointed to the spot. Reece has the Captain’s Armband on. He himself has been brought down in the box. Hughes & Lester are stood in the Tech Area. He probably knows Wilder, Knill & Prestridge are in the stand. Well. What would you fucking do? Correct. No one else is having this Pal. Hard to the keeper’s right. One. Nil. (stayed like that until HT).
If anything, United started with MORE energy in the second. Every player seemed to be looking for the ball, all the time. Joyful. Although, I did feel we went slightly off the boil as the game went deep. It’s worth mentioning our Sub at 85 minutes and some “what might we conclude” detective work. The guy who Tweets officially for the club as @SUFCDevelopment is meticulous. If we’ve got a Trialist, his team listing Tweet will say Trialist. Tonight - he tweeted (recently released from Manchester United) Callum Gribbin as Callum Gribbin. I’m reading THE LOT into that. Presumably, Callum has signed some sort of deal. He came on at 85 for Iliman Ndiaye.
A couple of minutes before that, United had sealed it with the second. Looked great. George Broadbent broke at pace on the left. Swept a great ball across the box. Sammy Ompreon was arriving on the edge of the six yard box & rifled it in. Look, this can’t be a full scouting and player markings report. Sorry. If I haven’t mentioned any players by name. Do not fret - they had a great game. Michael Verrips, in goal, had very little to do. But, looked organised & impressive. Kean Bryan was bang at it, again. Very composed. Comfortable on the ball, Raiding wide all the time. Jean Belehouan was wonderful in the centre of the three.
And. The Cricket. FFS. A big Carrier Bag Firm day out. 1030 starts in September. But, 0930 starts from Sheffield for the Off Peak Day Return with a Railcard. Kent had already lost FOUR WICKETS by the time we grabbed a coffee in the Headingley Long Room. We had to leave at 1630 to get to Chezzy. Kent were five down. Sam Billings had made a Century. Darren Stevens 200. And, I’d clapped them for the 300 Partnership. 39 for 5. Becomes 385 for 6 - but we were long gone by then. New boy Ajaz Patel. Seven Tests for New Zealand. Twenty two Test wickets at 32. He’s gone for 119 off 15 Overs. At the best part of EIGHT an over. Welcome To Big Boys Cricket.
And, finally. I was able to add two “Suspended In…” beers from Siren Craft Brewery to my Scorecard today. The CBF love a beer series. These are 4% Pales. Each one with a different Hop (or Yeast). Brewed simply to show off the flavours from the Hops (or Yeast). I’ve done Six now. Today’s were on the sticks in The Arcadia.
Siren Craft Brew, Suspended in Experiments on keg at 4%. Push. My. Buttons. Brewed using Experimental Hop #10416. That sprang a spicy bitterness, which came late & stayed around.
Siren Craft Brew, Suspended In Mandarina on cask at 4%. That just looked superb. Hazy. Great condition. Perfect head. It was gentle at first. Nothing harsh. But it draws you in. And. Well. Mandarins coming off the well named Hops. One of the very best beers I’ve had in a while.
Sorry. Rushed Blog. CYa.
