Look. It's not my fault. Alright. With no football to go to since March, the Carrier Bag Firm are all over this Blog. They need their fix of figures. If I don't quote some detailed ticking nonsense, the phones start pinging early doors. Before Yorkshire hunkered down to just Corporate Headingley & The Seaside Town They Forgot To Close Down, I ventured all over the gaff to the Outgrounds. Some were, and still are, Yorkshire League grounds. But, truthfully, I haven't really done Yorkshire League cricket until these mad Covid-19 times. If you really need the metrics - I'll claim THREE grounds.
As I wrestled with the folding chair, the first fella who came to the 2 metre circle was Ray, from Lichfield. Fuck Me Ray, what are you doing here, up a windy hill in Sheffield, from Lichfield? Have you got a Grandson playing? What's your story fella?
Ray is a County Member at Derbyshire & Leicestershire. Even in non Covid Complicated years, Ray only goes to County Cricket during the week. Because. At weekends. Ray schleps around to Club, Village, Recreational cricket grounds. Under intense CBF Algorithm Approved questioning, Ray wasn't exactly sure how many Club Cricket Grounds he'd ticked over the years. Man Alive Ray. Is it Amateur Hour? Well. He'd updated his Sacred Spreadsheet a couple of weekends ago. That ticked it in at NINE HUNDRED AND FIFTY Cricket Fields. Say What? Exsqueeze me? He felt that made Crimicar Lane his 952nd Cricket Ground. Best part of ONE GRAND. Ray is CBF Royalty. Be more Ray.
Obvs, I needed to crack the #CricketCans immediately to recover from that bombshell - 952 grounds - FFS.
Fourpure Brewing Co, Hemisphere Session IPA at 4.2%. (You can pick that up intermittently in Tesco Express/Metro/Etc). I thoroughly enjoyed that one. Indeed, it surprised me a bit. Great balance. Very refreshing. Quite a lot of mandarin orange sugar.
50s for Simon Guy & Sam Hunt. And a forty for Jamie Carrington. Brought Collegiate home with just two gone. All that despite 61 from Hallam's Andre Bradford. And North of 40s for Alex Hughes & Harry Bliss. Basically, Collegiate got their run chase right. Don't give your wicket away. Keep up with the rate. Smash it home quickly once you can see the line. A 21 run over and a six with scores level home & hosed it.
Ray jumped into his motor & drove down one of the many hills on offer.
