Got Too Tight

Yorkshire 158 all out
v Northamptonshire 170 all out
Yorkshire 217 all out
Northamptonshire 152 all out
Yorkshire win by 53 Runs
County Championship
Day Three
Tuesday 6 July 2021
Played at Northampton

I felt that was getting a bit too tight at the end. Once you get to under 50 in a chase, odd things start to happen. And the pressure shifts. At 43 for 5, Northants looked gone. Only Vasconcelos making double digits. But Procter & Taylor took it to 97, before Taylor went LBW to Coad for a give it some humpty 40 off 44 balls, 8 fours. Berg went in the same over. And, fuck knows what was in his head, Parnell was Run Out and they went for Tea. Kerrigan & Procter took it to 152. Eight gone. With the dreaded only fifty to chase in sight. But, Olivier did his thang. Kerrigan caught behind & two balls later, Sanderson fired out LBW.

All that was set up by a superbly composed 113 out of 217 from last man out Harry Brook. 178 balls & four an' half hours. Ballance was next with just 26. Come on. Come on. When are we going to put together a we're all contributing big score? Obviously, the tape can't lie. A win. Makes it very difficult for us to stuff up qualification for the Second Half Of The Season Big Boy League. But, we're often scrabbling. Great entertainment. But, you know…….

We rounded off our Northampton Beer Adventure in The Malt Shovel. Bang opposite a major Carlsberg brewery that one. The sign outside said "13 plus real ales". The Carrier Bag Firm comedian suggested they just paint out the 1.

As it happens, seven on Cask. Which I feel is a very good effort in "today's world".

Parkway Brewing Co, Beaky (yes Beaky) Blinder at 4.4%
Oakham Ales, Bishops Farewell at 4.6%
(Both of those were in great condition)
But the Outstanding Beer Of The Day was;

Nethergate Brewery, Stour Valley Gold at 4.2%. Another one in excellent condition. Fresh & zesty & easy drinking.

  1. Makes a welcome change to hear someone extolling cask beer, rather than the over hyped imitations in cans and kegs. Thanks for that mate.
