Played at Headingley
We have news. There has been an improvement. In general, I'd categorise the bars, beers & drinking at Headingley as being a disaster. Long snaking queues everywhere. Beers going off intermittently to annoy the Civilians. Example. Tetley's Smooth off at 1110 am in the Long Room Bar. No Cask anywhere. Bars being closed by the Stewards seemingly randomly from about 5:10pm. Leading to Beer Sprints to alleged open bars at other locales.
But, there has been an improvement. Two smaller Pop Up Truck bars. One behind the Western Terrace, one behind the East Stand Members. Bill themselves as Craft Beer Bars. Essentially, they're selling CraftALike Brands from big industrial breweries. I'm going to say from Carlsberg. But, at least you've got more of a choice.
Marston's, 61 Deep Pale Ale at 3.8%
Brooklyn Lager at 5.2%
I went with;
London Fields, Hackney Hopster at 4.2%
Natch, it was IdentiKit CraftAlike. Over malted. Under hopped. Not really much Hop Action. But, some nice sugar as I got further down it. Main point - it was AVAILABLE & you could sit in your seat drinking it & watch England win.
There's a 50p mark up (to £5.90 a throw), the queues were manageable. But, they insisted on pre pours. With beers going flat & warm on the shelf awaiting appropriate punters. Still….
There has been an improvement.
The whole game showed the Flow, Flow, Ebb, Ebb, Flow of Test Match Cricket. Dominant England on Day 1. Attritional building on Day 2. India getting it back together on Day 3. Then. Sixty Three for Eight on Morning 4. All wrapped up in an hour & 40. Headingley local pubs & bars frantically trying to get Bar Staff & Beer Re-Ups in for the Afternoon Apocalypse.
Robinson bagging his Five For as part of the inevitable. (note to self - didn't look so fucking inevitable the night before kiddo). But. There has been an improvement.
