Leave No Haribo Behind

England 4 v Andorra 0
FIFA World Cup Qualifying Group I
Sunday 5 September 2021
Played at Wembley

Very different atmosphere at Wembley today to the last time out at the EUROs. The feel good factor. The engaging nature of Southgate and his squad. A Sunday (late) afternoon kick off. And very cheap ticket prices. Certainly cheap in relation to what you'd have to pay at (for example) Bramall Lane for Sheffield United v Peterborough. All that brought out a festival family crowd with lots of young kids. The guy next to me had brought his four year old daughter to her first football game.

I'm FOR all that. But. Those kids need to be introduced to a proper football atmosphere. So they'll fall in love for life. Wembley on these days can be a sanitised non-football experience. Mexican Waves. Trying to fly paper planes off the upper tier. And. There's an etiquette an' all. Club shirts, at England games. A bit off. And mate, four year old kid, brought the Haribo (natch). Fucking pass them around a bit. Terrace Culture Counts. Leave no Haribo behind.

These games have to exist (I'm told). Pretty pointless run through for the B Team I'm afraid. Andorra can't defend forever. Sprinkle in some of the Big Guns. And it turned into a comfortable win. Despite that moan, it was a nice game to watch. The B Team weren't awful. But, they weren't getting it done either. England are very well placed in the qualification group.

The drink was in the "quirky"

King Charles I, 55-57 Northdown St, London N1 9BL

Hidden away a bit not too far from Kings Cross station. I see it's in the CAMRA Guide at the moment. Small single room affair. Stuffed deer on the wall. All wooden panelling & pews. Two blokes playing guitars in the corner. Was that Jazz? Blues? Lots of Fiddly Bits? Third guitarist arrived on a motorbike & joined in. That didn't reduce the fiddly bits I can tell you.

Siren Soundwave IPA on Keg. Three handpulls. One featuring Abbot. I piled into the other two. Both were in great condition & spot on.

Truman's Brewery, Zephyr, Pale Ale on Cask at 4.4%.
Foaming head. Late zingy bitterness
Southwark Brewing Co, Bermondsey Best on Cask at 4.4%
Near perfect example of an English Bitter. Great malt. Not too powerful. Running into ginger bitterness.
