SUFC 2022/23 Game #4
So, the EFL Cup. The most difficult competition to Blog. You're inevitably going to grounds you've been to dozens of times before. You're inevitably visiting pubs you've been to before. Alright, you WILL be drinking beers you've never had before. Because that's the Carrier Bag Firm way. Every fucker will tell you they're not bothered about the result. Claiming, in all seriousness, that they'd happily see us go out so nothing gets in the way of "the league campaign".
What do you write?
Shiny Brewery (Derbyshire), Afterglow, Cloudy Session IPA on Cask at 4.2%
A Hop stew of Citra, Mosaic, Centennial, Chinook & Azacca. Unfined, lovely and cloudy. Thick & chewy. More hoppy bitterness than I was expecting. Tasted absolutely packed full of flavour. Tropical fruit surrendering immediately to that tangy bitterness.
Green Duck Beer Co (Stourbridge), Spark, American Pale on Cask at 4.5%
Light & lovely. Nicely uncomplicated. Bringing the best out of it. Lemon. Melon. Nolem. (Actually that last one doesn't exist).
Old Pie Factory (Warwick), Old Pie Bitter on Cask at 3.9%
What's going on here? So many questions. What happened to the Pie Factory? There's not much of an internet presence. A few broken links to non-existent websites. Could rename it - the Old URL Brewery. Anyway, that was a near perfect English Bitter. That is to say, it does NOT stray too far into sweet & nutty territory.
Beartown Brewery (Congleton), Kahuna, Pale Ale on Cask at 4.5%
Passion fruit added in. Which, I couldn't really detect if I'm honest. Mosaic & Chinook.
All those "this isn't a league match" magnificent beers endured in;
The New Hall Arms
81 Newhall St, High Grn, Cannock WS11 1GR
Six on cask, 3 pukka keg. One, intriguingly, from Cannabrew. Brewing out of Lancaster. And brewing beers infused with CBD.
Well. Anyway. The EFL Cup. Look me in the eye. And tell me that I've wasted my time. If you want a fight.
The elephant in the room of course is FOUR AT THE BACK. Kyron Gordon as right back. The whole thing wasn't an abject failure. But, if The Funboy Three ever decide to use four in a league match, it won't be with Ky & Max Lowe at full back. So?
Anyway. Knocked out. We will not be visiting Derby County. I will not have to write another EFL Cup Blog this season. Good, some people are saying.
