Played at Campo Anexo Antonio Dominguez, Playa de las Americas
Ground Tick #465
Spanish Beer Ticks up to 46
In my not so humble opinion, there are two tickable grounds in Playa de las Americas and/or Los Cristianos. And, they're just across the road from each other. And both are really CD Marino grounds. One grass, one 4g or similar. Tonight's game at the smaller, 4g ground, Campo Anexo Antonio Dominguez, was my 465th ground tick.
All the spectators on one side, with a simple, uncovered, three row of seats stand down that side.
Details of that fixture were a lot harder to find than the stadium!!! We've had to go a long way down the pyramid to tick it. CD Marino play in Tercera División RFEF 12 Canarias. Along with 17 other teams across the Canary Isles. I'll bill that Tier 5 of the Spanish Pyramid. Tonight, we were watching their B team - Tier 6. Their opponents, from Güímar, half way up the East coast of Tenerife, seemed to make up most of the maybe just three figures crowd. They were certainly the most pissed.
I got the impression the smiley gateman had seen the odd Carrier Bagger before. He'd certainly got his patter down to a T.
“The home team will be playing in Blue.”
“The toilets are on the left.”
He said as he handed over the only plausible meaningless bits of paper I could see.
“Alright, Manuel, we're not fucking amateurs, we're the CBF…”
There was a lovely and friendly outdoor canteen bar down the end. I notice he didn't point that out FFS. Maybe because you couldn't get near it for the “as old as me” Güímar Firm bang at it. Eventually, a Dorada Pilsen on Keg at 4.7% was acquired. That's from Compañía Cervecera de Canarias on Tenerife. It's an imprint of Anheuser-Busch InBev. So, despite local pretensions, it's an Industrial Macro. But. Watchya gonna do.
Earlier on this trip, one of them had been my 43rd Spanish Beer tick. In my not so humble opinion again, the only plausible Craft Beer Gaff down Sur is;
The Vault Bar Tenerife
El Mirador Local 1, Av. Ámsterdam, 17, 38650 Los Cristianos, Santa Cruz de Tenerife
A small, well appointed, but deffo not on the promenade, bar with a faux Hard Rock Cafe feel. Industrials on the sticks. Craft bottles and tins in the have a look and help yourself fridge.
You know how it goes. On your First Fridge Furttle. You're all…
“What the fucks this one?”
“Where's this ‘un from?”
So, you grab - Any Spanish. Much easier to work the rest out if you've got one on.
Cierzo Brewing Co (Zaragoza), Alter Citra from a Tin at 4.5%
Good start. Great beer. I think that's Alter as in Alternative. Rather than Alter as in Old. I think it's a Double Dry Hopped version of their standard Citra. Lots of Hops. Big Citra whack. Coming in rich & bitter. Rather than lemony. Easy drinking once you get with the programme.
That gave us time to work on our geography.
TACOA Cervezas Artesanales (El Sauzal, Tenerife), Collab with 50&50 from Lombardia in Italy, Kalima Series 03, Hazy IPA from a Tin at 6%
A hit of juice up top. But then it's a comes at you all at once beer. That abv a bit of a headspinner in this heat.
Enjoyable and interesting game won by the visitors with a goal on just 8 minutes. Played at a breakneck 90 +1 miles an hour. Very few fouls I felt. Which made it very different to an English game at this level. Mainly because players weren't sticking their foot in all over the shop. And there was a presumption of staying alive with the ball. But, just like the English game, the fucking flare ups were all over some bollocks.
Unión player storming over to the Marino bench when they hadn't put it out when a man was down. Marino coach hareing up the line to explain a few things to the other bench. Yellow Card. Audition for a job in England concludes.
