MUFC v MUFC

Maidenhead United (Step 1) 4 v Milton United (Step 5) 0
Berks and Bucks FA Men's Senior Cup, Fourth Round
Monday 29 January 2024
Ground Tick #469

Elizabeth Line paying dividends out here bruv. Used it recently to get to a Langley game. And to Blag a lift home “from” a cancelled Sheffield United U21 game. Tonight, I climbed aboard again to get to Maidenhead. For my 469th Ground Tick.

On paper, this always looked like a Step mismatch. MUFC (variety Maidenhead) from the National League. Up against MUFC (variety Milton) from the Combined Counties. A potential mismatch made in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup. Milton U even suggesting it's the biggest game in their history.

The Berks & Bucks dates back to 1878/79. When Reading best Marlow one zip in the final. Maidenhead, in one guise or another, have won the cup 22 times. So far this year, Milton United have got past Abingdon United (1-0), Wantage Town (8-1).

(Maidenhead, Monday, still January, some beer targets closed I'm afraid)

The first hit was;

Off The Tap
105 High St, Maidenhead SL6 1EA

A burger and beer place. Two Cask on. A large range of major craft. And. It looks like one rotating intriguing ‘un. Which tonight was;

Indie Rabble (Windsor), Mantle, Hazy Pale on Keg at 4.5%

Nice beer. Hazy. But not overjuiced. Bit of fruit quickly gives way to draw you in bitterness. Madri glass FFS.

The Maiden's Head
34 High St, Maidenhead SL6 1QE

In the CAMRA Guide. Four Cask on. And then all the industrials. CAMRA Card Discount.

Mad Squirrel (Hertfordshire), Trident, Pale Ale on Cask at 3.4%

Hopped with Talus, Mosaic, and CryoPop. Sweet and citrus up top. But, got some great depth to it at that abv. Almost ginger in the bitterness.

There was Rebellion Beer Co. Roasted Nuts & IPA on Keg in Stripes Bar, the clubhouse at the ground. There was a four pint jug, one pint beer three pints froth. And two pint pots, half beer, half froth next to the Roasted Nuts tap. So I didn't fancy that drama. Better have the IPA 3.4%.

Both teams started brightly. Milton United happy to play the passes and attack. Held their own for the first 30. But, in the end defensive mistakes cost them. Heavily.

On 33, they gave the ball away. The Maidenhead United guy took it on. And rolled it into his unmarked mukka to score.

Immediately, we had a Calamity Clearance in the Milton United area. It hit his own man. It was going in OG. But, a Maidenhead striker claimed he got there before it did.

Goals on 60 & 66 killed it all off. The fourth was also from a defensive howler. That was the hat trick for Shawn McCoulsky.

MK Dons in next round I'm hearing.
