A wonderful Micropub in Daventry for the pre-pre-season. You've got the name slightly wrong though fella. Early Doors. Yet, when the Carrier Bag Firm turned up about twenty to twelve. You weren't quite ready to serve them. Where we come from - that's A Bit Late Doors. Luckily for all concerned, a nice beer board & some beer in great condition, built a lot of trust. All six beers were on Gravity out of a sort of purpose built chilled set of cubby holes.

Advice was offered. Tasters were proffered. Beer Bollocks questions were gently answered. The best of the bunch was bright as a button. Spot on.

Phipps NBC, India Pale Ale at 4.3%. Just what you'd hope for in an English style IPA at that abv. A small amount of nutty malt. Which gave way to tongue tingling bitterness.

Unremarkable game. Competent performance. Building I feel. Zak Brunt & Harry Boyes were unused subs. Regan Slater got three minutes. I mean, I want to see him play. But, why bother for three minutes. I felt McGoldrick looked a little sharper. Coming very deep & trying to spin his defender. But, also turning the defenders around to face their own goal when he had the chance. Whoever takes the ball off the keeper and/or centre backs in these games will look good. As they'll have the ball a lot, with a bit more time on the ball. That's Norwood & Lundstram.

I wasn't close enough to the action to give a judgement on the penalties. But, obvs scoring both pens puts Captain Until Sharp Norwood in the Man Of Match frame.

Classic bit of Modern Football Bollocks at BDTBL for the trained eye. One of those they've forgotten what that's for moments. Here's a reminder. Modern Subs warm up more-or-less constantly. They can be distracting for refs, linesmen, fans. You wouldn't want the lino to (incorrectly) flag a United player offside because he's seen a flash of a red tracksuit on the far side as a Sub warms up.

First World problems. Simple solution. Get the Subs to slip a bib on over the tracksuit. Job’s a good ‘un. So, in Modern Football that becomes - Subs need to wear fluorescent green/yellow bibs. Check.

So, The Cobblers Subs all slipped green bibs over their essentially black tracksuits. Check.

Except, Northampton were playing in their change kit of FLUORESCENT FUCKING GREEN. Meaning that the Black Tracksuits, which weren't confusing ref/lino/fans. Were now replaced with summat much closer to the kit being worn.

Northampton came to defend. But, in the same high work rate close United down, “good way” as Oldham. United now have the bottle to change a few things up, keep at it, trust it. So, we had another late show. To go Top.

Early doors, Fleck was running forward, into the Box occasionally. That is one way of breaking defensive teams down. But, he fell off as the game went on. Of course, it's not sensible to hit n hope long range shots, from difficult angles, off your wrong foot, as you're being closed down. But, if teams set up defensively. Then you have to engineer positions where you CAN get good shots off. United don't seem to be able to do that. Everyone up to Shirecliffe next week.

Otherwise it can all look a bit square and then dink it into the box hopefully. No worries. We got it done. Dry Day.
