I got tripped up by the Licensing Laws today. I've had my eye on Tamper Coffee at 149 Arundel St for some time. Ostensibly a coffee shop. They've got one cask pump & 2 kegs. One of those mixed model places. Even though I've never had a drink in there, it appeals to me. Bolt hole.
Got in. Sat down. Asked to taste the Red Willow Directionless on keg. Nice, tangy bitterness, thin mouthfeel. To be told, I can't upgrade to the half as it's not 1100. Laws is laws. Not their fault. But one heavily pissed off punter.
Eventually settled on a Bad Seed Brewery, Dana Pale at 4.5% on cask in The Beer Engine. Secretly, I was hoping to stick with Bad Seed all day. As, my evening was to be rounded off at the Nick Cave Royal Albert Hall show.
You rarely get a bad pint of Bad Seed. Good, consistent, plan A beers.
Ridiculous 26k plus crowd at The Lane. It was a flat, uninspiring day. Not many chances created. The final shake up means it's Swindon. The American & Turk will no doubt be berating us to Believe & Trust. Can't wait for that record to be changed. I hope they've worked out who is doing what in the Penalty Shoot Out.
Also appearing were Portobello, Star at 4.3% on cask & Sambrooks, Wandle at 3.8% on cask. Both in The Angel Wetherspoons. Very disappointed in the Wandle. Bit of vinegar going on.
