I like the hype but don't quite believe it. McCullum has got the spin. Essentially it boils down to - with limited resources, we have to attack all the time if we're to win Test Matches. The downside is your opponent knows what you're going to do. The downside is you're going to look a tit sometimes. He's played a Big Shot first ball after tea and Mark Wood has caught him. Tit.

Infectious though. With England playing their part. The opposite end of the spectrum, often snarling, Anderson has done his 400th Test scalp. The next bloke to beat him will be "very tired". He also caught Williamson cold and had them 2-2 after 16 balls. But a normal 84 off 180 from Latham and a " McCullumesque" 88 off 70 from Ronchi has got them to best part of 300 off 65 overs.

Cricket's dilemma out there. Late start. Bars open. More lenient "anything goes" sections of the Western Terrace. You have to take money off people with no interest in the cricket, and no interest in developing an interest in cricket. You have to let them do their thing. And hope & pray it doesn't put the much smaller number of cricket fans off. With my own eyes, no pitch invasions, no punch ups, tills a-ringing. So far, so good.

I didn't venture though, so Dry Day.
