Here are two things that surprised me at Wembley tonight. The number of Dutch fans. What is that all about? A tiny upper tier sliver. A few hundred tops. The sliver only looked half full an’ all. Obviously, the “traditional” Dutch fan wasn't my type. Orange top hat n tails. Orange boiler suit. Those hijack marketing Heineken stovepipe hats. Buffoons. But, Bells from Hell, where have they gone?
Surprise number two. REAL ALE KLAXON. Have I been missing that? Because of some logistics we had going on. A different Lieutenant in the Ball Sup Army bought our tickets. They were in a slightly different section to where we normally sit. So, we saw a different bit of the concourse tonight. But, there it was. Pushed against the wall. A Real Ale Bar. Inside Wembley. Is it always there, and we've only just stumbled across it? Why wasn't I told?
Casks racked & tilted in stillage against a back wall. Fellas & lady fellas dispensing via gravity. It was certainly Hobgoblin, Ruby Ale at 4.5%. And, I couldn't quite make it out. Maybe Marstons EPA. Downsides were plastic glasses (naturally) & an imperial Fiver for an Imperial Pint. Don't mind saying it. Surprised. Intrigued. Pleased.
But, of course, I'd missed out. That J.J. Moon’s (Wetherspoons) just at Kingsbury Tube is quite handy for Wembley. Just one stop North. I did one of the foreign brewers Showcase beers.
Birrificio Italiano, Bibock on cask at 6.2%.
And,
Adnams, Explorer in cask at 4.3%. Which was superb. Nice & fruity easy drinking.
