Here's The Beers

India 78 all out
v England 432 all out
India 215 for 2
3rd Test
Close on Day Three
Friday 27 August 2021
Played at Headingley

Very much an Indian day as they clawed their way back into it. I felt England were flat at times. Lacking a bit of energy maybe. Sometimes, you have to make things happen, rather than wait for them. That said, Pujara seemed to have worked it out again. A much wider range of shots. Positive mindset. Nearing his century with a better strike rate than Kohli. With Curran, particularly, getting flogged at over four an over.

The bad light came in quite early, with the floodlights on more & less all day. Wharf & Kettleborough told Root he had to bowl his spinners. The game drifted a bit until he got to 80 Overs. And presumably Root told 'em he wanted Anderson & Robinson with the New Ball. And off we trot. With the game set for Saturday morning.

Springwell, North Brewing Co, Springwell Works, Buslingthorpe Ln, Leeds LS7 2DF

Is an outlet completely dedicated to getting Beer into Punters. With some success I might add. I always get a little bit emotional. Because, the bit of history I subscribe to, has North Bar in Leeds as the first craft beer bar in England. Eventually they branched out into brewing. And recently they launched this Speedwell flagship brewery & enormous Tap Room space.

My first visit. This feels very much like a build it and they will come operation. I don't know this area of Leeds. You can see the University and City Centre. But it feels in the middle of nowhere. No neighbours to disturb. An enormous trestle table & benches courtyard. A high roofed indoor space. We were seated on the upstairs bit looking down on the bar & across the whole empire.

You could go up to the bar and order conventionally. The waiting staff were constantly wandering & asking whether you needed anything. And, there was an App if that's yer bag. Whichever you chose. Boom. Here's the Beers. Superb. Just dedicated to getting Beer inside you.

Fourteen of their own on Keg. Including three Collabs. Three guest Kegs from Overtone Brewing (Glasgow). And even an extra one on Cask (presumably gravity). Some off & replaced as the night developed. Ranging from 2.5% to 8%.

North Brewing Co, Fading Frontier, Double IPA on Keg at 8%.

I'm happy to admit I hanker after old skool brown Double IPAs. Residual sugar, deep & rich, but mainly just there to get you to the throat grabbing bitterness. Route One Beers. This weren't. And those days seem gone. Too many brewers constructing rather than deconstructing. However, that was lovely & soft. Pillowy even. The Hop Action came rather late, but did develop a bit. It'll kill you this one. Because no way did it taste like 8%.

North Brewing Co, Paria IPA 5.0, New England IPA on Keg at 6%.

Nice smell of tinned pineapple. But hop bitterness immediately lights up the taste. Very powerful. Deep & rich. And the bitterness just kept on coming.

North Brewing Co, North X Ridgeside X Meanwood Festival Summer Ale on Keg at 4.8%.

I found that slightly odd at first. As if there was a dash of Tonic Water in it. But, further in, I started to really enjoy it. I know nowt about it. But, I got the feeling a few brewers had thought long & hard about making that all work out.
