Not at the races today. Kelly & Brooks dropped down from the first team fringe. Maybe Shea Gordon was rested following three games for Northern Ireland U19 in Holland. Danny Cockerline back from loan. Joel Coustrain back from who knows where. As always, the mystery surrounds Terry Kennedy (not involved) & Diego De Girolamo (named as sub, came on at half time). The wonderful and frightening world of Sheffield United means we don’t know if they’re being held for first team duty at the weekend. Or (more likely) being prepared to be fully jettisoned.
The Colchester United coach driver (lovely fella, supports Orient) identified Diego as the best player out there after he’d been on for about 5 minutes.
He had a ridiculously easy chance. Bad clearance straight to him, collected it, took it on, steadied himself maybe 6 yards out in front of the keeper & banged it wide. He hit the post fairly late on with a good turn and shot. But, we were chasing the game by then.
Streak over. Turned into 17 unbeaten in the end. Gotta love that. Stay in 2nd. Huddersfield have games in hand anyway. We’d got it all on the finish Top. Squeaky Bum. Still need 4 points, now from three games, to guarantee a top two playoff finish. More than likely away at Charlton. I won’t review, I’ll wait until the end. But, that has already been a thoroughly enjoyable U21 season.
Today, Colchester deserved that. A strong turn & rocket shot for their first set the tone.
The drink was, Driftwood Spars, Red Mission on cask at 4%.
