Rhian Did That

Sheffield United 2 v West Ham United 2
Premier League

SUFC 2023/24 Game 38

That draw dissected with the help of;

Abbeydale Brewery, Collab with Campervan Brewery (Leith), Wanderer Transatlantic IPA on Keg at 6.3%

Plumage Archer malt. UK grown CF161 & CF162 iHops. Then dry hopped with HBC586 & HBC638 from the US. From the Abbeydale Wanderer series. The fifth one I've tried. There's not really a common theme. Just a loose - inspired by beers from around the world - meme. Great beer. Thick & chewy. Hop heaven.

Abbeydale Brewery, Archangel, Pale Ale on Cask at 4.5%

Vic Secret and Simcoe. Clear as a bell. Fresh as insert your favourite fresh thing.

A sportsman I admire won a load of cups and medals. When quizzed on some of his unusual tactics, he said;

“Sometimes, you've just got to make something happen. Particularly when a game is going nowhere or you're behind. It doesn't really matter what happens. So long as something does.”

I like that as a manifesto. Clearly United and Rhian Brewster didn't particularly plan it that way. But, at two one down. Rhian did that. He made something happen. And we equalised on 90 +13.

For effect, I'm going to say - Rhian did that.

I love the bloke to bits. Forget about the Price Tag. He can't catch a break. Injuries mainly. Today, he came on at 80 for ‘dre Brooks. We'd just gone two one down.

The Premier League is choreographed. Teams and fans believe things have to unfold in a particular way. As it all drifts along to the script. Sometimes you have to change the narrative. Basically;

“Let's put these fuckers in a game.”

Rhian’s challenge on 90 +3 did that. Like it or not, it did that. Suddenly, all sense of calm had gone. And, it can fuck off as far as it likes. The East London Oiks had their bonces full of anything but - calmly see the game out.

Injustice. Revenge. Spittle. That's what they're left with. Coufal gets yellowed for suggesting Rhian gets redded. He goes on 90 +7. The Ref. The Ref. He's not fucking immune either. He's subsequently wondering where his arse is in geospatial coordinates to his elbow. His entire existence is based on nothing happening. Rhian has made something happen.

I thought United played well. Brooks had his best game for a while. His confidence is growing. He's got that left foot, drag back, and move forward thing going on. Living on confidence, sprinkled with nutmeg. He needs to bring all aspects of his game together on the same day. And then we'll talk.

Those quick five yard runs in transition. Those drag backs. Long tracking running back. Tight as on his man at defensive corners. Diagonal channel runs.

I noticed a bit more playing between the lines. Particularly Hamer to McAtee. But, Hamer’s tackling and physicals for where he's playing are too weak sometimes. He was at fault for the first. Wrong side of the man, and stick your leg out tackle. Poor.

Still. A good performance. With a fair enough result from where we were. There is a case for - Rhian did that.
